Inspiring Future Journalists Through Play

Immerse yourself here!

Imagine being a child, walking into a state-of-the-art newsroom, cameras rolling, breaking news buzzing in your ears. You’re handed a microphone and tasked with uncovering the truth: separating facts from fiction, rushing to report live from the field, and presenting the news to your audience.

This is the world we created with NOS Jeugdjournaal, the leading news source for children in the Netherlands, on Roblox, a fully immersive experience that transforms young players into budding journalists while fostering critical thinking and curiosity about current events.

Empowering Young Minds to Combat Fake News

In an age where misinformation spreads at lightning speed, NOS Jeugdjournaal wanted to go beyond simply delivering news. Their mission was to spark curiosity and empower children to think critically about the information they encounter. By tapping into the gaming habits of their young audience, we saw Roblox as the perfect platform to blend education and entertainment. Together, we created an engaging, interactive environment where children not only consumed news but also became part of the journalistic process.

Revolutionizing traditional media engagement through gaming

In an era where misinformation is a growing concern, the mission of NOS Jeugdjournaal was clear: to inspire children to actively engage with news and journalism. With the rapid rise of gaming platforms like Roblox among young audiences, we saw an opportunity to combine education, interactivity, and entertainment.

The solution? A fully interactive Role Playing Game (RPG) experience designed to:

  • Engage: Build a deeper connection between young audiences and journalism.
  • Educate: Teach children to identify fake news and understand the journalistic process.
  • Empower: Inspire curiosity and critical thinking by letting children experience the world of news firsthand.

The Impact: Reaching and Inspiring the Next Generation

The results were above all expectations!

  • In just two days after launch, over 50,000 new players joined the game.
  • To date, the experience has reached more than 330,000 children, with consistent player engagement.
  • The project ignited curiosity in young minds, teaching critical media literacy and encouraging an active interest in journalism.

By merging education with play, this project created a new tool for how traditional media engages younger audiences. Children didn’t just learn about journalism, they lived it, empowering them to think critically and resist the spread of misinformation.
