Dizzying Reality: Feel what it’s like to have epilepsy

Imagine this: you’re sitting in class and suddenly something happens that you can’t control. You feel dizzy, in the spotlight, and misunderstood by the people around you. This is the reality for children with epilepsy. But how do you make someone truly understand what that means?
Together with the National Education and Epilepsy Network (LWOE), we developed an answer: ‘Dizzying Reality’, a 360° VR experience that literally puts you in the shoes of a child with epilepsy.

Why this matters

For students and teachers, it’s not just about what epilepsy is, it’s about how to provide support. In a safe virtual environment, you can practice: How to respond as a classmate or teacher. What works, and what doesn’t. This helps children with epilepsy feel safer and more understood.

For parents and educators, the VR experience provides insight into the daily reality of their child, increasing awareness and strengthening collaboration between school and home.

How it works

To make it as easy as possible for schools, we developed a ready-to-go setup. A sturdy carry case contains everything you need:

  • Accessible: easy to use, suitable for any classroom
  • Scalable: can be used in projects, awareness weeks, or training sessions
  • Evidence-based: developed in co-creation with students, teachers, parents, and healthcare professionals

As Yannick Boers, Creative Director at Boldly, says:

“VR is perfect for temporarily stepping into someone else’s shoes. You feel how everyday reality is disrupted — and that feeling sticks.”

Impact

  • For children with epilepsy: greater understanding and a safer environment
  • For teachers: a practical tool to develop empathy and teach inclusively
  • For everyone: an unforgettable experience that turns knowledge into feeling

Fynn, whose sister has epilepsy, said after trying the experience:

“I had heard all these stories from my sister before, but now I really experienced it – it’s actually pretty scary.”

And that’s exactly the point: feeling creates understanding, and understanding drives change.

Conclusion

With ‘Dizzying Reality’, knowledge comes alive. You see, feel, and learn what children with epilepsy experience. It’s accessible, energizing, and impactful. A clear example of how technology and creativity together can truly change the classroom.
