Augmented Reality App

The Great Church of Veere is located in the town of the same name in Zeeland. Veere is visited by over a million tourists annually.

Several interactive installations showcase the history of Veere. The church’s team felt the need for better cohesion between these activities. To achieve this cohesion, they developed an app with two main objectives. Firstly, providing information and practical details for visitors.  Secondly offering a digital tour guide that takes visitors through the church, its experiences, and its history.

The Augmented Reality tour guide took the form of Wolfert VI of Borselen, a former patron of Veere. Using a LiDAR scanner, a 3D avatar of his statue within the church was created. With a state-of-the-art motion capture suit from Rokoko, the team was able to breathe life into the avatar.

This suit records every movement at every point on the body and links it to the created avatar. Rokoko also offers excellent face capture technology, enabling them to capture Wolfert’s facial expressions and mouth movements. This makes him appear realistic when he speaks.
