We finally get to share the big news with you!
We were able to immortalize the legendary ‘Spookslot’ (haunted castle) in the metaverse for the Efteling, in cooperation with PelserHartman.
Together, we created an unprecedented 3D experience that brings this iconic building to life.
The Spookslot had been a beloved part of Efteling since 1978, but the ravages of time required that it make way for a new haunted theme area. The theme park’s creative thinking creates fairy tales and attractions that can be experienced from generation to generation. This is why the Efteling expressed a desire to digitally immortalize the iconic building to make it accessible to future generations as well.
We are incredibly honoured to have had the opportunity to help preserve this icon, despite the challenges it presented. One of the biggest challenges was the enormous complexity of PelserHartman’s scan data. Although the Pointcloud scans captured every detail of the haunted castle, the volume of data made it a challenge to optimize it for use in a digital environment.
Boldly-XR 3D Team
Our 3D team processed more than 4 billion polygons into a unique combination of mesh optimization combined. On top of that including details from the heavy point cloud model to the optimized model. This is to ensure that the final experience will run smoothly and run seamlessly on virtually any device. All of this without compromising on the details that made the haunted castle the icon that it was.
To make the environment even more realistic, we used 360° photography to significantly enhance the scan data. The scanners used did not adequately capture the colour, but by using additional 360° photography. We were able to create a more colour true, realistic and immersive experience that truly captures the essence of the lock. In this case, we used Pointclouds to digitally create the 3D structure of the building and projected the 360° – photography data over it.

To ensure that the final product is safe and the interior is accessible exclusively to Efteling employees. We worked with GET to create an NFT gate that allows only Efteling employees access to the interior of the Spookslot.
The end result is an incredible 3D experience that brings the haunted castle attraction back to life in a whole new way.
We feel honored to have been able to work with the Efteling and PelserHartman on this project, and we are incredibly proud of the innovative work we were able to accomplish together.
