In depth: The XPENG case

A Virtual Reality experience of the flying Voyager X2 by Chinese car company XPENG.

————————————————————————————————————————————–

XPENG is one of the Chinese car brands coming to Europe. Only they are not just a car brand, they develop flying cars. The future is near, people.

They opened their first flagship store in the Netherlands, at The Mall of the Netherlands. To celebrate and reinforce this opening, they were looking for a campaign or activity to get people to discover their flying car, the XPENG Voyager X2.

The showroom featured all the models of the cars XPENG has developed, as well as the prototype flying car. Through VR, we created an experience in which people could also experience the car. In Virtual Reality, visitors had the opportunity to take a test flight with the Voyager X2. The headset made it seem like you were in the car yourself as it drove out of the hangar and took off. If you looked out the window you could see yourself flying over the Shanghai skyline.

Since it is not possible to have every visitor fly a lap, the use of VR was very useful to still give people as realistic a view of the vehicle and experience as possible. In Virtual Reality, you are momentarily disconnected from the here and now, through the photorealistic 8K renders of actually shot 360 content from Shanghai you really imagine yourself in another place for a moment.

That’s what makes VR so powerful and also so suitable for applications like this. You offer the visitor a cool experience that not only promotes your product or brand but also gives the user a thrill. A VR experience just always remains special, because it is so immersive it really makes an impression and ensures that the user will remember it for a long time.

The goal of this project?

XPENG wanted to provide excitement and brand awareness in addition to offering the experience of flying. Also, let visitors associate the innovation and progress of the flying car with the brand.

The store is well-attended and the feedback is very positive. Visitors are impressed by the experience and thus enthused about the XPENG company and its vehicles.

What led to that succes?

Using a VR experience of their own model vehicle achieved these goals. The visitors imagined themselves in the flying car, making them extremely aware of the innovation and possibilities. Offering this in an impressive and fascinating way created enthusiasm and curiosity. This increases the traction and retention of such a campaign.
