A Virtual Reality employee training on workplace risk recognition and assessment of production processes, at multinational Perfetti van Melle. VR training provides significant cost savings and measurably better-trained employees.
————————————————————————————————————————————–
Perfetti van Melle (PvM), is the parent company of many of the world’s most famous candy and gum brands such as; Mentos, Fruittella, Klene, Chupa-chups, Smint and many more.
Worldwide, PvM has more than 30 production sites. One of the key elements in ensuring a safe and sustainable production process at all of these sites are the employees. All employees must possess expert-level skills in risk recognition and assessment.
Their PvM blue training did exactly that, but required their training team to travel around the world, to all those different production sites. Something that obviously takes a lot of time, money, and constraints. Let’s also not talk about the environment and the phenomenon of “flight embarrassment” ;)
Together with Sping, we proposed an alternative; high-end interactive VR training.
That in turn led to us traveling halfway around the world to shoot this content on location at their production facility in Shanghai. With the Jaunt, one of the world’s best 360-degree cameras and a specialized camera crew, we finished the job.
Together with the training team, we shot the content in just a few days, but that was just the beginning; the task on the back-end side was enormous. We seamlessly integrated the entire training with their Totara training platform, allowing accurate tracking of each employee’s progression.
The goal of this project?
Developing training at least as effective as the PvM blue training program. Which properly educates and trains employees in risk assessment, from the comfort of their own homes. In addition, reducing costs and emissions caused by travelling around the training team.
This worked out extremely well; the ROI (Return On Investment) was immediately clear. However, Perfetti van Melle saves a huge amount per year on travel and training costs. They also receive a significant discount on their insurance costs because their employees are much better trained and tested on risk recognition than before.
With their exceptionally well-trained employees, their production floor has never been safer than it is today.
What led to that success?
The fact that VR training is so effective and employees were measurably better trained after attending VR training classes is because a VR experience is so special and stimulating to the senses. Equally, it makes a great impression, ensuring high compliance during training. Employees will retain a lot of information from the training afterwards. Our brains respond very well to information presented in an immersive, interactive and 3-dimensional way. More traction, higher retention.
We also built this project scalable from the beginning, which promotes persistence in the future. In addition to easy updates and revisions, our modular approach allows an immense number of Virtual Reality devices to run the content.
Finally, good training is incredibly important for your employees, after all, you want them to have optimal knowledge and grow with the company.
Virtual Reality training does just that, with measurable results.
